Cut the em-dash.
Keep the sentence.

Deleting an em-dash breaks the grammar around it. Strike rewrites the punctuation properly, semicolon, colon, comma, or a clean new sentence, so nothing reads broken. Your writing stays private, always.

the method

Not a delete key. An edit.

01

Find every dash

Strike scans your text for em-dashes, and the double-hyphen and spaced-hyphen versions people use as substitutes.

02

Read both sides

It checks whether each side of the dash is a full clause or a fragment, the same judgment call a copyeditor makes before choosing punctuation.

03

Mark the correction

A semicolon joins two full clauses. A colon leads into a list or explanation. Parentheses hold an aside. Nothing is just deleted.
